CAMPY CVA Agar is an enriched, selective and differential medium used for the isolation, cultivation, and presumptive identification of Campylobacter species, including Campylobacter jejuni. Cefoperazone suppresses the growth of gram-negative enteric bacilli and some gram-positive bacteria. Vancomycin inhibits many gram-positive bacteria. Amphotericin B is an antifungal. Nutrient Agar is a general purpose medium for the cultivation and maintenance of nonfastidious organisms. It can be used for the cultivation and enumeration of organisms in water, sewage, feces and other materials. Nutrient agars prepared with Oxoid Nutrient Broth No. 2, specified by Maron & Ames, Mutat. Res. 113: 173, 1983, are used for general growth and CFU determinations of Ames S. typhimurium and E. coli WP2 strains. We provide specifically formulated Nutrient agars and broths for Ames assay applications as well as for general use. MOLTOX does not provide microorganisms for testing. Haemophilus Test Medium (HTM) is used in the dilution antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) of Haemophilus influenzae and other fastidious respiratory pathogens. This formulation is supplemented with the X factor (hematin) but not the V (NAD) growth factors. For differentiation of XV, NAD must be added to this medium. LB Agar, Miller, also referred to as Luria-Bertani Agar, is a widely used medium in molecular biology applications for maintaining and propagating E. coli. LB Agar, Miller contains twice the amount of sodium chloride as that of the Lennox formulation which allows for the researcher to be selective of the salt content when working with a specific strain. MOLTOX offers a wide variety of LB Agar, Miller plates with the addition of several different types and concentrations of antibiotics to provide a more selective medium for recombinant cells with a specific antibiotic resistance. Fluid Thioglycollate Medium (FTM) contains a small amount of agar and several reducing agents which detects the presence of anaerobic bacteria in sterility testing. This medium is recommended by the FDA and in the USP for use in sterility confirmation. Strict aerobes tend to grow at the surface whereas obligate anaerobes grow below the upper oxidized layer portion of the broth. Buffered Charcoal Yeast Extract Agar without L-Cysteine (BCYE w/o Cys) is a non-selective and non-differential medium. It is used in combination with BCYE Agar(s) containing L-cysteine HCl for the presumptive identification of Legionella species. L-cysteine HCl is a required growth factor. Ferric pyrophosphate and alpha-ketoglutarate provide additional nutritional requirements. Activated charcoal decomposes hydrogen peroxide, which is a toxic metabolic biproduct, while also collecting CO2 and modifying surface tension of the media. ACES buffer helps maintain the proper pH for optimal growth. Bile Esculin Azide Agar with Vancomycin and Streptomycin (BEAVS) is a selective and differential medium used for isolation and presumptive identification of group D streptococci, Enterococcus faecalis, and Enterococcus faecium. Group D streptococci and enterococci hydrolyze esculin in the presence of bile, resulting in esculetin and dextrose. Esculetin reacts with ferric ions to form brown-black colonies. Oxgall (bile salts) inhibit most strains of non-group D streptococci and enterococci. The medium is supplemented with 8µg/mL Vancomycin and 100µg/mL Streptomycin. Streptomycin inhibits gram-negative organisms present in background flora.
